There are all kinds of ways to celebrate St.Patrick’s Day, Paddy’s Day or Patty’s Day as some like to call it. Here are a few special traditions:
•Wearing GREEN, especially Shamrocks
•Drinking GREEN Beer
•In Chicago, the River is dyed GREEN each year for the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
•In New York, bagels, beer and the lights on the Empire State Building are all GREEN
•Major League teams celebrate with traditions such as GREEN caps, GREEN batting gloves and some even have GREEN bases
This year I decided to try a new way of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, and I think it will be my new tradition. Of course this project involved painting, however it was not GREEN paint that I chose this time. The only thing GREEN about this project are the leaves on the Oxalis plant I used.
Oxalis, often called Shamrock, is a plant with GREEN leaves and dainty-like flowers in various shades of colors. You can find Oxalis in March at your local nursery. I chose white because I love the simplicity of white. I first saw this idea in a magazine and decided to give it a try. I really love the way it turned out, it was simple and did not take anytime to make.
I found the terra-cotta pot at Garden Ridge. You can find terra-cotta pots at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart. I went to my local Michaels store and purchased two colors of acrylic paint. In the article they suggested that you tea stain the tag, but because of time I just painted it and wrote on the tag using a black sharpie. You will need to spray your pot with a sealant for protection.
